How to Add a Custom Domain?

Having a custom domain for your eCommerce business can make a significant difference. It can add credibility to your business while also enhancing its search engine visibility. Moreover, when you have a custom domain for your online business, it puts you in a better position to market your brand. That’s why Windo offers you the possibility of adding a custom domain to your online store, and we’ve kept the process quite simple.

First, go to the Settings page where you can find the Custom Domain feature. After scrolling down to the Shop Website section, click on the ‘Custom Domain' icon.

To connect your Custom Domain, follow these steps in your hosting server:

(Also, you will see a step-by-step outline below, which will help you change the name servers in your domain’s current host account).

Step 1:

  • To connect your domain, you must update your domain’s A records or CNAME in your domain host account (usually the service provider you bought your domain from).

  • Log into your Domain Host account.

  • Find your domain and go to the Settings panel.

  • Find your DNS Settings or Manage DNS Records.

  • Add New Record.

Now, let us explain to you how to add A records and CNAME.

Use case 1- Add A records.

To add A records.

  1. Select Type as A.

  2. Host as @.

  3. Points to as 65.2.103.52 or 43.205.0.164 or 65.2.85.14

  4. TTL - 1 hour.

Use case 2 - Add CNAME.

  1. Select Type as CNAME.

  2. Name as @.

  3. Value as connect.mywindo.shop

  4. TTL - 1 hour.

Please note: TTL should be as minimum as your Domain provider can offer.

Step 2

Now, you need to add the Domain to your WINDO Shop. After updating the DNS settings in your domain host account, go to the Custom Domain page in your WINDO app and add the domain in the Connect Domain field and then click on the “Connect” button.

Step 3

Finally, wait for your domain to propagate. And, it’s done!

It may take up to 48-72 hours for your domain’s new A records or CNAME to propagate and for your site to appear worldwide.

Please note:

  1. If you want to disconnect your domain anytime from your Windo Shop, you can remove or reset your A or CNAME records back to your previous record mapping.

  2. Also, you can toggle your domain connection a maximum of 3 times a week, i.e. you can change your domain NO more than three times a week.
